Social Dreaming Matrix: Being & Becoming in the 2020 Crisis
May 7, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
To shed more light on the workings of the collective unconscious in unsettling times, the newly formed Laboratory for Social Choreography at Duke University is pleased to host a weekly Social Dreaming Matrix.
Originally discovered by Psychoanalyst Gordon Lawerence at the Tavistock Institute in the 1980s, Social Dreaming has become a widely respected and applied practice. In each Matrix, participants share past nighttime dreams or share associations with those that have been shared. Through a structured process, often-unexpected connections between ideas to emerge. Social Dreaming is thus a way to explore subconscious concerns or ideas that may be more widely shared. Moreover, the practice of Social Dreaming Matrix enables a collective capacity for associative thinking, allowing for new thought to emerge.
The Laboratory for Social Choreography is dedicated to developing new ways of thought and action to better respond to social challenges as they emerge. In this moment of global pandemic, the Social Dreaming Matrix is offered as a way to consider our thoughts in a new context.
