Kenan Distinguished Lecture in Ethics: Kenneth Feinberg – “What is Life Worth”

November 7, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Kenan Distinguished Lecture in Ethics: What is Life Worth, The Ethical Challenges of Catastrophe Response

The public is invited to the 2019-2020 Kenan Distinguished Lecture in Ethics: a conversation with Kenneth Feinberg.

Feinberg’s book and forthcoming movie What is Life Worth?, focuses on his work administering the federal 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.  With the first-of-its-kind fund established by Congress, Feinberg navigated through the epicenter of the pain and grief of survivors and families who lost loved ones in order to calculate appropriate awards for each claim. Over the course of three years, he learned most importantly that “no check, no matter how large, could make the families and victims of 9/11 whole again.” An expert in the field of mediation and alternative dispute resolution, Feinberg has administered compensation funds for high-profile events of our era including: the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster, the Boston Marathon bombings, the Volkswagen emissions scandal, and most recently the Boeing 737 MAX crashes.
