Restorative Justice is a way of addressing harm based on the needs of those harmed and the greater community of which they are a part. Under the larger umbrella of Restorative Justice, Circle Keeping is a foundational practice to create and maintain relationships. Circle Practice can be used for building community, celebrations, learning, as well as for restorative practices after harm has been done both for healing and for conflict resolution. This training provides everyone experience with being in circle and includes the basic components of Circle Keeping. By the end of this training, each participant will draft a simple circle script to lead on their own.

Each participant is expected to lead at least one circle in the spring semester under the mentorship of a more experienced RJ practitioner in the Duke community. We highly encourage pairs or teams of students, faculty or staff from a particular group, unit, School or division to attend so that you have a ready group to begin implementation of circles in your area.
