Hiwot Shaw

Hiwot Shaw works as an Activism Fellow at the Institute for Justice in Arlington, Virginia. In her role, she helps bolster grassroots advocacy campaigns that empower communities to defend their rights and advance justice. Her work focuses on expanding access to justice, promoting economic liberty, and creating stronger, more equitable communities grounded in individual freedom, entrepreneurship, and civic participation. She graduated from Duke in 2025 with a BA in Environmental Science and Policy and an Ethics and Society certificate. She loves dance, the outdoors, and reading.
