Oxford Professor Explores How to Make Refugee Settlement Policies in Africa “Sustainable”

 

The Kenan Institute for Ethics’ “Roots and Routes” series recently welcomed Professor Alexander Betts, the William Golding Senior Fellow in Politics at Oxford University and former director of the Oxford Refugee Centre. Betts highlighted the ethical challenges of refugee law and policy with an overview of his Ikea Foundation funded work on refugee settlements in Africa to understand how and where should we protect refugee communities.  With more than 80% of all refugees finding save haven in the developing South, creating sustainable sanctuaries where most refugee find themselves is critical.
