Front Operations Team – Marketing & Communications Student Assistants

The Kenan Institute for Ethics (KIE) Front Operations Team – Marketing & Communications Assistants have two primary responsibilities:

1) represent KIE as the welcoming first point of contact for the KIE office suite and West Duke building while managing the front office space, and

2) assist the professional staff in the marketing and branding of the Kenan Institute for Ethics and its individual programs, including Duke Engage, by providing communication support with copy writing, graphic design, and social media platforms.

KIE Front Operations Team – Marketing and Communications Assistants will complete communications tasks during weekly shifts at the KIE front desk (during regular business hours (9am-5pm, M-F). Some communications assignments may be completed outside these office hours.

Assignments may include updating website content (WordPress), creating the undergraduate edition of the newsletter (Constant Contact), creating and scheduling social media posts, writing blogs about student-centered events, and other duties as needed.

This position is supervised by the Assistant Director for Communications and the Program Director.

Marketing & Communications Tasks

Meet weekly with the Assistant Director for Communications. Support communication of KIE programs and events through the following (tasks assigned according to strengths and interest):

  • Assist in the revision and updating of KIE print materials.
  • Develop original content, including templates, posters, fliers, and other marketing materials consistent with KIE branding.
  • Designs of website graphics.
  • Updating the website (WordPress).
    Assembling the undergraduate edition of the newsletter (Constant Contact).
  • Attending events of interest and writing content for the KIE website.
  • Assist with the management of KIE social media accounts – writing and scheduling social media posts.
  • Potential tabling/outreach events for undergraduates.

Administrative Tasks

  • Greeting people as they enter the building, answering any questions, providing directions and alerting staff when someone is there to meet or visit them.
  • Accept deliveries and mail, organize them to be distributed to the correct recipients using the office mailing system and ensure they get to the recipient in a timely manner while also managing outgoing mail and packages for pickup.
  • Handling filing and data entry as requested.
  • Maintain the reception area, keeping it clean and free of clutter.
  • Answering and directing phone calls, relaying messages as needed.
  • Make copies or scan documents as directed.

Successful Candidates for this position will have experience/skills in several of the following areas (assignments delegated accordingly):

  • Solid writing skills
  • Website editing experience
  • Social media experience
  • Experience with Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, and Canva.
  • Demonstrates a strong interest and experience in graphic design and marketing
  • A general interest in ethics

Kenan Institute for Ethics Front Operations Team – Research Assistants

The Kenan Institute for Ethics (KIE) Front Operations Team Research Assistants have two primary responsibilities:

(1) represent the KIE team by serving as the welcoming first point of contact for the KIE office suite and West Duke building while managing the front office space, and

(2) provide programing and research support for KIE faculty and programs.

KIE Research Assistants will manage inquiries for Kenan Institute for Ethics and its individual programs from the front desk and will be assigned to support the work of faculty, assessment director, and/or program support according to strengths and interests. KIE Research Assistants will complete many research and program support tasks during weekly shifts at the KIE front desk (during regular business hours (9am-5pm, M-F); some assignments may be completed outside these office hours.

This position is supervised by the Program Director.

Faculty And Program Evaluation Support

  • Make copies or scan documents as directed.
  • Light copy editing and proofreading
  • Assist with survey design and assessment reporting.
  • Assist with data input and distribution lists.
  • Collecting, coding, and organizing data
  • Completing literature reviews
  • Conducting analysis

Programming and Development

  • Assist with data input and invitee distribution lists.
  • Gathering and organizing supplies and forms for meetings and major events.
  • Assist with event setup and cleanup; interact with participants in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Promotional social media support prior to events and through day-of photo documentation.
