Higher Education at the Crossroads: Reckoning with the Rise of Illiberalism

This one-day conference will identify strategies for maintaining our universities as vital democratic institutions, explore this issue from both comparative and historical perspectives, and dive deep into issues like academic freedom, institutional neutrality and viewpoint diversity.
“Higher Education at the Crossroads” will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, and finish around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. The full schedule will be available soon; registration will open by March 16, 2026. There is no cost to register and meals are provided; however, hotel rooms must be reserved at attendees’ own expense at the JB Duke website.
