Ethics in the Professions: A Conversation with Greg Kraus

September 28 @ 5:45 pm - 7:45 pm
Ethics in the Professions flyer

A series hosted by the Kenan Ethics Living-Learning Community, “Ethics in the Professions” (EIP) invites professionals into an intimate, open-ended, student-facilitated conversation about how they navigate ethical issues in their field. This small-scale conversation (with dinner to follow) offers students the opportunity to learn — from the first-hand experiences of our guests — how ethical concerns discussed in the classroom may show up on the ground. The aim is not to answer questions about what one ought to do, but rather to learn more about how different individuals navigate their mutual responsibilities toward complex work contexts and personal values.

For our first EIP event of the year, we’re excited to talk with Duke alumnus, Greg Kraus (M.Div.’02).

Currently Director of Accessibility Innovation in Al Ethics, Governance, and Social Impact at SAS, Greg Kraus has spent over 20 years asking who gets left out when we build technology. He has worked alongside organizations of every size—from Fortune 500 companies to higher education to open-source projects—building innovative solutions that strive to make digital content usable by everyone. His work now wrestles with how AI can advance accessibility without harming the people it claims to serve. Trained as both a computer scientist and theologian (BS in Computer Science from Texas Tech University, MDiv from Duke University), he argues that inclusion is never a feature added in at the end. It must be something built in from the start through every design, the engineering decisions we make, and the people in the room who make those decisions.

Space is limited. Dinner will be served after the talk.
