Most ethical dilemmas we encounter hinge on specific circumstances, but they often point to bigger questions. When laws are passed to limit soda consumption or, less conventionally, to ban dwarf tossing, we wonder about how much legal paternalism is a good thing.

Team Kenan’s new Big Questions series offers a forum for people to get together to chat about thematically linked ethical dilemmas on a regular basis. Big Questions sessions are meant to be lively conversations with around ten participants in a relaxed atmosphere. They take place in Team Kenan’s “home” in 103 West Duke Building most Mondays from 3:30pm until 5pm.

Join us this Monday at 3:30, when the topic will be animal ethics. Get a head start by reading a few of TK members’ thoughts on animals and ethics. Bethany writes that tossing dead possums for fun might not be as bad as that sounds. Chad tries to put the murder of a hamster in the proper context (What is the proper context you ask? Exactly.) And, in a new post this week, Nihir has a playful take on how we ought to balance the interests of our pets versus native wildlife.
