This isnt new.. Back in the 1980's they were blaming Dungeons and Dragons for teen suicide and violence, due to it's depictions of demons, and the birth of LRPG. They even made two motion pictures called "Mazes and Monsters" and Skullduggery, that portrayed teens who played these games committing suicide or becoming serial killers. However the American Association of Suicidology, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Health & Welfare (Canada) all concluded that there is no causal link between fantasy gaming and suicide. And the sensationalism slowly died down and is hardly remember.. From today's perspective the notion that role playing games drive people to murder and suicide sounds ridiculous.. I think future generations will view this controversy surrounding computer games similarly.
The simple fact is... Crazy is crazy.. And crazy people will latch on this something to feed their delusions.. But make no mistake, they were already crazy. We just need somewhere to point the finger. Something to blame..
I dont believe video games can drive any sane person to violence. Of course anything can be unhealthy if done is excess.. If you or your child is spending 8 hours per day playing computer games (or doing anything other than school or work), maybe its time to take a break.. Go for a walk.. Have a conversation.. Playing video games excessively isnt the cause if the problem, but it could be a symptom.
