The Life of Memorials

The Life of Memorials: Manifestations of Memory at the Intersection of Public and Private is an exhibit curated by Team Kenan in conjunction with Perkins Library. It looks at the many ways we remember and memorialize people and events.

Who and what is worthy of memorialization? Who must be involved in the process of making a memorial? How many people must be satisfied with the result for a memorial to be a success? How does a memorial’s meaning change with the passing of time?

Be it paper cranes or statues, locks of hair or skyscrapers, Team Kenan invites you to examine the ways in which we collectively and individually memorialize.

The full exhibit was featured in the Perkins Gallery at the Perkins Library from July 21 through October 16, 2001. A selection of elements from the exhibit may be found here. The exhibit was briefly reviewed as part of the Independent Weekly’s story on commemorations of the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks in the Research Triangle. Read the story here.
