Fall issue of Encompass out Nov. 14

“Ethics Is International,” the fall issue of Team Kenan’s biannual ethics magazine Encompass arrives November 15th. This issue features articles discussing the many ways ethics crosses borders and boundaries, cultural, political, and social. Highlights include a reflection on privilege and interconnectedness in South Africa, an article examining whether elitism in science is actually a good thing, and an article reviewing the frequent interplay between social and religious imperatives in political life. We’ll post an electronic version of the magazine online soon. Pick up your copy in the offices of the Kenan Institute for Ethics in West Duke Building, in the publication racks in the Bryan Center, and other spots around campus.

Now accepting submissions for the fall issue of Encompass

Encompass Ethics Magazine is Duke’s only ethics-themed student publication. We strive to publish articles that ask ethical questions about things ranging from our every day lives here at Duke (Is it ethical to be a Cameron Crazie? What are the ethical questions around DukeEngage?) to big picture, global issues (How do we remember the Holocaust? Is it ethical to eat GMOs?). No issue is out of bounds, and we seek submissions from undergrads, grad students, professors and members of the Duke and Durham community. Articles are typically between 500-1000 words (but this is not a strict maximum, longer pieces have been published!). Have an idea that’s not totally fleshed out? Send the Encompass team an email; if the concept has promise, we’ll be happy to workshop the article with you. More…

All projects require skill managing deadlines, working independently and in teams, performing research, and designing strategy to get work noticed by a general campus audience. Positions are open to students in all graduating classes. While interest in ethical issues is a must, More…
