Research

The Institute promotes ethical reflection and engagement through its research, education and practice in three core areas: Moral Education & Development, Organizational Ethics, and Civic & Global Ethics.

Our work in the area of Moral Education & Development examines the ways emotion, cognition, and culture affect morality and how best to cultivate individual growth and ethical understanding across these areas. It is about how critical transitions shape character, moral reasoning, and moral imagination, and the role of educators in these transitions.

Our work in Organizational Ethics seeks to understand what constitutes an organization’s culture, how ethical cultures have changed over time, and how different factors can improve or corrupt an organization’s ethical climate. It includes helping institutions understand and response to ethical crises, negotiate conflicts of interest, and enhance workplace culture.

Our work in Civic & Global Ethics concentrates on key ethical challenges in relationships within and across political and cultural communities. These challenges include demographic change, declining civic engagement, the lack of transparency and accountability in global institutions, and impediments to global ethical dialogue.
