Christine Bader is Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Kenan Institute for Ethics during the 2011-2012 academic year. Though based in New York City, Bader will convene a workshop in Durham on institutional and normative change at the intersection of business and human rights with a small group of expert practitioners and Duke faculty. She has already led Duke first-years in the Institute’s Ethics, Leadership & Global Citizenship Focus cluster on a field trip to the United Nations and other New York institutions. A prolific Tweeter, blogger, and writer, she will continue to pursue her own projects and serve on the board of The OpEd Project, an initiative to expand the range of voices in public debate.
Bader, who has served on the Kenan Institute’s Advisory Board since 2009, recently completed a term as Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for business and human rights. From 1999-2008, Bader worked for BP in Indonesia, China, and the UK, primarily addressing the social impact of large projects on communities in the developing world. She has also served as a corps member with City Year, as a teaching fellow at Phillips Academy in Andover, and as special assistant to New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor. She is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and an Associate Fellow of the Truman National Security Project. She has a B.A. from Amherst College and an M.B.A. from Yale.
