Project Change

“To change one’s life: Start immediately. Do it flamboyantly. No exceptions.”
—William James

Project Change is a pre-orientation program on ethical leadership and social change sponsored by The Kenan Institute for Ethics and the Duke University Women’s Center. The 2009 Project Change program took place August 10-18.

Project Change participants spend eight intense days of taking risks, making mistakes, and meeting challenges in the heart of Durham with a select group of students, staff, community leaders, and faculty. They join a diverse team of eighteen other incoming freshmen and be given the adventure of a lifetime—to change the lives of complete strangers in creative and dramatic ways. Think The Amazing Race meets Oprah’s Big GiveTM.

In this immersive leadership experience, participants live, learn, and work in Durham, competing with a team of  peers to find ways to solve critical problems in your new community. They have fun, meet friends, and get to know the city where they will be spending the next four years.

The Kenan Institute for Ethics covers all costs including transportation, housing, meals, and supplies. Participation is determined by a competitive application process.
