DukeEngage Dublin
In partnership with University College Dublin, several Irish NGOs, and DukeEngage, the Institute is sending eight students to Dublin, Ireland, for eight weeks in summer 2010 to help understand and tackle growing problems in the Irish refugee community.
Students will participate in an immersive civic engagement experience working with communities of migrants and refugees. This experience is immersive in two senses. First, students will be immersed in the Irish experience of globalization and migration as they participate in an ongoing national policy debate about the meaning of race, citizenship and human rights from a distinctly Irish perspective. Second, they will also be immersed in the experience of migrants and refugees who have suddenly found themselves in Ireland.
Overall, students will have a powerful civic engagement experience that will enhance their cultural, political, and ethical understanding of globalization and migration.
